So back before I even knew where I was moving, I had an idea of what I wanted my new apartment to look like when I finally got a job and moved to a different spot. Between yard-sales, thrift stores, and the wealth of things I inherited from my grandmother, I collected items to upcycle.
I scored this old drum table and danish style chair at a yardsale, actually mine and my sister's, from a neighbor who brought some things over. I didn't even have to leave the comfort of home, score indeed!

My sister and I found this little side table at a local thrift store back in Alabama for 10 bucks, that's it!
So with the help of 2 lovely ladies {mom and sister}, a local upholsterer, and a friendly lady on a Sunday afternoon at Lowes, here are my upgraded goods:
I love me some furniture :)
One more project, that is still in the works is my grandmothers cane back dining set, I feel so lucky to have it handed down to me. I'm still working on it and will post pics of the final product. I'll go ahead and share the before though, just because I'm really excited I'm *almost* finished with it.

So after Christmas and lots of painting and thrifting, my mom and I headed out for a road trip on the way to my new digs in the state where everything is bigger.
We stayed 2 nights in New Orleans, and it was fabulous. I can't wait to go back and see more. Our first night there we ate at Pierre Maspero's and it was a bit of spicy heavenliness.
Gumbo, Jumbalaya and red beans and rice? Yes please!!
Behold the Cresent City Sampler
After 6 years of college, grad school included, I have quite the collection of books to fill this beauty.
{This is what bookcase love looks like}
And here are a few other things I love in mi casa...
Urban Outfitters rug!
The lighting is not so good in some of these, but I love my sweet little antique recipe box, another fabulous find.
I found both of these shelves at the same thrift store as my side table. My mom told me how hideous she finds the gold shelf, I happen to love.
And the rest of the photographs are just random favorites
I'm so close to having everything in a place, hooray for order! To celebrate being in my new home, I made a not so gourmet dinner. It was very good and carby however.
Asparagus, Buffalo Macaroni, and Rosemary baked bread. If you like some spice in your pasta, check out Archer Farms Buffalo Macaroni and Cheese, it packs some punch yo.
Thanks so much! I'm still learning my neighborhoods, but I'm in the Jersey Village area. I love your stuff-- amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteI am a large fan of your sister's, and I live in Houston, too, so I'm totally saying WELCOME TO TEXAS, SISTER!
ReplyDeleteI'm not in Texas, but you know, welcome to where you live now, from me, here in Maryland. If I'm ever in Houston, I'm going to stop by and steal that chair. Just FYI. PS, If I have totally creeped you out, it's your sister's fault.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the warm welcomes!!
ReplyDeleteAnd Bri, you're totally welcome to come by a sit a spell in my chair if ever in Texas.
